Parent Communication

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Please take a moment to review the updates and noteworthy items below for the week of January 22 - January 26. Have an awesome weekend!

Updates/Upcoming Week

No Name Calling Week - KAIS came together to support and promote “No Name Calling Week” January 15th through the 19th.   KAIS supports bullying prevention and recognized this with a variety of activities including a schoolwide poster contest.  Students showed their creative skills with posters centered around the themes of "Be a Buddy not a Bully" and "Think Before You Speak."  We are pleased to announce our winners: Marie Roberts (8th grade), Angela Beer, Camden Frye, and Madison McDonald (all in 7th grade).

8th Grade STEM - The 8th grade STEM students used the skills they learned from their "Home Alone" project to complete the "If I Built the School" project.  Students brainstormed ideas regarding what they'd like to see in a school if they were in charge of renovations, made a floor plan, and then built 3-D models.  Aaron Shook and Alex Simoni's school was a student favorite because it had a moving elevator using power from a remote control car.  Mrs. Phillips was very pleased with the creativity displayed by all!

Hockey For Heart - 7th and 8th grade students are putting together teams of 11 players to compete in a fundraising event that will take place during the E/I period starting on February 7.  The top two teams in the tournament will play in front of the school during a PM assembly.  Each student will donate $10 to participate in the tournament.  All money raised will be donated to the American Heart Association.  If anyone would like to make a donation but not participate in the event, money or checks can be turned into Mrs. Valenti.  All checks should be made out to the KAIS Activity Fund.

Keyboarding 7 - The following students have achieved a remarkable milestone by earning a perfect score of all three stars on their EduTyping lessons: Rachel Johns, Madison Drum, Nina Holm, Logan McMeans, Cooper Petrilla, and Benjamin Murphy.  Not Pictured: Peytan Mcgarry, Parker May, and Quinn Murphy.

Mr. Skwarko couldn't be prouder of their dedication and commitment to mastering this essential skill. Keyboarding is a valuable skill in today's digital world, and their proficiency in typing will undoubtedly serve them well in the future, both academically and professionally. This achievement is a testament to their hard work and determination.

He also wants to take this opportunity to express how proud he is of all of the students in 7th grade Keyboarding for the second nine weeks.  Each student has put in their best effort to develop their keyboarding skills.  Their progress is a commendable journey towards mastering this skill.  Your children’s dedication and hard work is truly appreciated.

NAEP Testing - National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), also referred to as “The Nation's Report Card” will take place on February 1.

The Nation's Report Card is a unique resource because it offers a window into the state of our K-12 education system and what our children are learning. The results provide educators, policymakers, elected officials, and parents across the country with invaluable information regarding how our children are doing compared to other children in large urban districts, other states, and the nation. When our children participate in NAEP, they are helping to inform decisions about how to improve education in their state and in our country. The participation of your child can, and often does, lead to change.

NAEP Testing will only impact a random sample of our 8th grade student body. Students (and families) will be notified if selected by the end of January.
